Stepping Toward Health: A Community On The Move

Get Started

“People don’t need sweeping resolutions, like running 5 miles a day or never eating dessert again,” says Dr. Nancy Van Vessem, CHP Chief Medical Officer. “When they fail to keep these promises, they wind up back on the couch, doing nothing healthy.” We can:

  1. Begin with walking. Work up to 30 minutes a day, at least 5 days per week (eventually 60 minutes will be terrific!).
  2. Park farther away in lots so we get more steps.
  3. Take stairs instead of the elevator.
  4. Turn off the TV and computer and do something active.
  5. Walk with friends and family.
  6. Plan family activities that make us move: parks, beaches, museums.
  7. Overall: Set reasonable goals, hold ourselves accountable, join this community Stepping Toward Health program!
