Capital Health Plan Named Among "America's Best Health Plans"

CHP rated top health plan in Florida

Capital Health Plan (CHP) has once again received national recognition. CHP today announced it was rated as the top-ranked commercial and Medicare health plan in Florida. In the rankings published in the 2008 U.S.News & World Report and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) issue of “America’s Best Health Plans ” CHP was one of the top 25 commercial plans in the nation with a rank of 23 and one of the top 10 Medicare plans in the nation with a rank of 7.

“This is a testament to the dedication of our physicians and clinical staff to the community we serve. There is nothing more important to us than the quality of care delivered to our members,” said CHP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nancy Van Vessem. “These rankings are based on clinical performance, member satisfaction and accreditation information. We are happy our CHP members are satisfied with their medical care and we appreciate this outstanding feedback.”

The rankings, which used data from NCQA, HEDIS® and CAHPS®, cover measures in categories related to access to care, overall satisfaction, prevention and treatment.

America’s Best Health Plans rankings are based on prevention, treatment and customer experience scores on a range of measures that health plans voluntarily report to NCQA. The scores of commercial health plans are reported in NCQA’s Quality Compass database. These scores reflect the results of consumer surveys and success in preventing and treating illness compared to other plans.

Commercial Rankings:
  • CHP members rated their satisfaction with their personal doctor (rating of 9 or 10) as the highest in the state.
  • CHP members once again scored the Plan the highest in the state and the South Atlantic Region when asked “how satisfied are you with your health plan?”
  • CHP scored the very highest in the nation for colorectal cancer screening for the 3rd year in a row.

Medicare HEDIS® scores are obtained from the Alliance for Community Health Plans (ACHP) database.

Medicare Rankings:
  • CHP members rated their satisfaction with doctor communication as the highest in the state and the South Atlantic Region.
  • CHP scored the very highest in the nation for colorectal cancer screening for the 4th year in a row.
  • CHP also scored the very highest in the nation for eye exams for diabetic members.
