The late Dr. I.B. Harrison.
Doctors' Day is officially observed each year on March 30. Locally, appreciation for our physicians spanned much more than a day, with CHP receiving "Thank You" cards for physicians throughout the month and Capital Medical Society hosting its fourth annual Celebrations Awards Dinner on March 10.
Capital Health Plan thanks all of our members who downloaded a Doctors' Day card and penned personal messages to a special caregiver. We were privileged to deliver your cards.
At the Celebration Awards, local physicians again honored one of their own with the I.B. Harrison, M.D., Humanitarian Award, a prestigious award initiated by Capital Health Plan in 1997 and carried forward by the Capital Medical Society (CMS). Dr. James W. Stockwell, a Tallahassee gastroenterologist for 31 years, received the honor before an audience of 230 doctors and guests. Colleagues praised Dr. Stockwell for his numerous professional contributions, including his role in establishing the We Care Network and his continuing dedication to health care access.
The award is named for the late Dr. I.B. Harrison, a pioneer in the Tallahassee medical community and a member of Capital Health Plan's board of directors. Each year CMS physicians choose a doctor who exemplifies the values Dr. Harrison personified: compassion, service, respect, wisdom, and integrity.
Doctors' Day gives all of uspatients and those who work with and for physiciansan opportunity to reflect on, and to say, how much a special doctor contributes to our lives.
