The Silver Stars Celebration is one of Tallahassee’s premier senior recognition events, honoring a select group of people for their special contributions. The Tallahassee Senior Center, which spearheads the event, invites the community to nominate Silver Stars. Capital Health Plan is proud to be a major sponsor for the 2011 celebration which culminates in a festive awards dinner at the FSU University Center this spring.

Capital Health Plan is proud to be major sponsor and continuing supporter of the Silver Stars program, recognizing active seniors in our community who continue to Live Well, contribute to the community and achieve accomplishments since reaching age 60. The Tallahassee Senior Center, which spearheads the event, invites the community to nominate Silver Stars for their involvement, inspiration and active living. The 2010 celebration culminates in a festive awards dinner at the FSU University Center on April 14th.

"CHP is proud to support the Tallahassee Senior Center’s efforts to highlight extraordinary seniors in our community," said Dr. Nancy Van Vessem, Chief Medical Officer. "Silver Star honorees exemplify CHP’s mission to ‘live well,’ by leading healthy, productive lives, while giving back to others."

Past honorees include athletes, executive directors, community advocates, caregivers, volunteers, and entrepreneurs. The common thread is exemplary service to others and our community. Last year’s Silver Stars included Mildred Allen, Eleanore Campbell, Nancy Graham, John Haughabrook, Barbara Judd, Fairy Powell, Bob Schmidt and James Walker. Silver Stars 2009

Capital Health Plan and Tallahassee Senior Services proudly sponsor the premier senior recognition event in our community each year—Silver Stars. The Silver Stars Celebration recognizes older adults who have made outstanding contributions to our community or achieved significant accomplishments since reaching age 60. Nominations are sought from the community each year for individuals who are models of active aging, inspiring others to live well and be involved in our community.

Previous Silver Stars include community advocates, executive directors, volunteers, caregivers, senior athletes, and entrepreneurs. The common thread is exemplary service to others and our community. Last year’s Silver Stars included Gladys Davis, Moira Desloge, Dr. Jack Golden, Bob Keller, Ed and Violet Mason, Harriette McCarter, Johnnie Ransom, and Charlie Yates.

Wanted: Silver Stars (60 and Better)

They’re at least 60 years of age. They’re high achievers who help others. They’re shining examples to young and old. They’re Silver Stars—annual honorees at a celebration created by the Tallahassee Senior Center and cosponsored by Capital Health Plan. Because of the event’s growing popularity, this year’s gala and dinner will be held at the FSU University Center.

First we need nominees! This is your chance to honor someone—friend, neighbor, or relative—who brings light to lives. Past Silver Stars have included athletes, executive directors, community advocates, caregivers, volunteers, and entrepreneurs. Think a few moments. You know someone. Please let us know, too.

Silver Star criteria: Eligible people are those who, since age 60, have accomplished outstanding achievements, demonstrate exemplary service to others and our community, and are inspiring models of active aging.

Nomination process: Write a description of up to 100 words about the person’s accomplishments since age 60. Mail it to Silver Stars Nomination, Tallahassee Senior Center, 1400 N. Monroe St., Tallahassee FL 32303.

Deadline: February 22, 2008.
