Colon Screening Program

Thanks to you, Capital Health Plan is leading the nation in colon screening.

CHP Supports Colon Screening Awareness

Colorectal cancer is a cancer of the large intestines or rectum.  Everyone should begin regular screening at age 50, or at age 45 if you are African American.  A stool test is available that makes colon screening easier than ever. The kit requires only one sample and there are no dietary or medication adjustments necessary when you collect the stool sample. An examination of your colon is also recommended, either a flexible sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy.

You should know your personal and family history.  If you are at an increased risk, due to a first degree relative having had colon cancer or adenomatous colon polyps, you may need to begin regular screening at an earlier age. If you or a close family member has had a biopsy, know the results.  Talk with your primary care physician about the best time to get screened and any follow-up you may need.  For a healthy colon, get involved in colon screening today.

Nationally Recognized CHP Colon Screening Program

The Capital Health Plan received the highest score in the nation for Colon Screening in 2012. This score from national HEDIS survey results is reported in the Quality Compass® 2012 published by National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).*
